Nomura Notes TENCENT Expedites Cross-product Integration of WorkBuddy, Expects ByteDance and BABA-W to Dominate CN AI MaaS Mkt
2026-11-03 14:54:32
TENCENT (00700.HK), covered by Nomura in a report, held its Global Digital Ecosystem Summit last month, showcasing enterprise-focused products and solutions, with office AI agent WorkBuddy becoming a key highlight. Management disclosed that since its launch in March, WorkBuddy has processed 9 billion user task requests, while half of China's Top 500 enterprises have adopted the enterprise version of WorkBuddy.

Nomura believed TENCENT is expediting the integration of WorkBuddy with enterprise products. The platform is positioned as a central orchestration layer capable of invoking and coordinating different applications to execute complex workplace tasks. The company also launched the cross-application AI collaboration initiative Buddy One, integrating Tencent Docs, Tencent Meeting and ima, offering unified accounts, shared AI quotas and bundled subscriptions.

Competition in office AI agents is increasingly shifting toward the ability to integrate proprietary and third-party enterprise applications and execute broad customer workflows. BABA-W (09988.HK) and ByteDance are also adopting similar strategies. Among them, ByteDance's Volcengine leads the MaaS market with a 45.1% revenue share, while Alibaba accounts for 25.2%. In the LLM MaaS segment, Alibaba holds a dominant 46.6% share, notably ahead of ByteDance's 10.2%.

Nomura estimated that Alibaba's MaaS revenue in 1H26 was approximately RMB2.7 billion, of which LLM services accounted for about 87%. ByteDance's overall MaaS revenue was approximately RMB4.8 billion, with LLM contributing only around 11%, implying that Alibaba's LLM MaaS revenue was about 4.6x that of ByteDance. IDC data reinforced Alibaba's competitive advantage in enterprise LLM monetization. The broker maintained a Buy rating on both TENCENT and Alibaba (BABA.US), with target prices of HKD659 and USD178 respectively.
