Julius Baer: Traditional Safe-Haven Assets Lackluster This Yr; HK and Singapore Become Preferred Regional Safe Havens
2026-11-02 10:35:06 Julius Baer said in a research report that traditional safe-haven assets such as US Treasuries, gold, the Swiss franc and the Japanese yen have delivered mixed performances so far this year. Coupled with geopolitical tensions and damage to the credibility of US institutions, the market's definition of a "safe haven" is shifting from assets to jurisdictions, namely countries or regions where capital is expected to remain secure through political cycles, economic crises and generational transitions. Jen-Ai Chua, analyst at Julius Baer's Equities Research Asia, said Hong Kong and Singapore are favored as Asia's preferred safe havens, while Australia and Japan are viewed as alternatives. She noted that Hong Kong and Singapore possess Asia's most concentrated ecosystems for financial and legal services, along with solid monetary foundations. Hong Kong serves as a gateway for Mainland China's wealth, while Singapore benefits from a stable institutional framework and diversified wealth sources from China, SE Asia, India and other markets. ~ AASTOCKS Financial News Website: www.aastocks.com | |
