CPCA: Global Automaker Mkt Cap Falls in Sep; Nascent Carmakers' Mkt Value Down 58% YoY
2026-10-05 16:43:32 Among global automakers by market cap, automakers in the US stock market remained the largest segment, sizing RMB12.9 trillion in September, down 5% MoM and down 13% YoY, Cui Dongshu, Secretary General of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), said. The market cap of Hong Kong-listed automakers reached RMB0.87 trillion, down 11% MoM and down 50% YoY, while the mainland A-share market hit RMB1.4 trillion, down 4% MoM and down 36% YoY. The CPCA stated that for some companies dual-listed in A- and H-share markets, market cap is primarily classified according to the primary listing venue, with BYD Company (002594.SZ), GREAT WALL MOTOR (601633.SH) and GAC GROUP (601238.SH) categorized as A-share companies. It also aggregated the A- and H-share market cap of Chinese automakers and auto parts enterprises. The A-share market tends to support smaller upstream companies in the automotive supply chain, while the H-share market tends to support large automakers, highlighting stark differences in domestic market preferences. In September, changes in the market cap of domestic and overseas automakers were relatively evident, with consumer automakers facing extremely severe pressure overall. Given high subsidies, Chinese commercial automakers saw market cap decline only 7% YoY despite relatively weak global competitiveness, maintaining a relatively strong position over the past five years as of September. Tesla, Inc. (TSLA.US) saw its market cap fall 11% YoY, while the overall market cap of other international automakers in September was at the lowest level since early last year, reflecting weak market sentiment. International automakers such as Toyota (7203.JP) and General Motors Company (GM.US) recorded a 14% YoY decline in market cap. Private-sector automakers including BYD Company, Geely and GREAT WALL MOTOR saw market cap fall 31% YoY, while state-owned automakers lost 37% YoY and nascent automakers declined 58% YoY. Phone-related automakers such as XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) and Huawei-backed Seres logged a 59% YoY downfall in market cap. ~ AASTOCKS Financial News Website: www.aastocks.com | |
