2026-10-05 12:34:59 Hong Kong stocks lacked momentum for a rebound this morning (5th) amid the absence of southbound fund support. The HSI opened down 8 pts and remained weak, closing the half-day session at 23,952, down 20 pts or 0.08%, with half-day turnover of only HKD54.598 billion. The HSTECH closed the half-day at 4,169, up 11 pts or 0.27%, while the HSCEI closed at 8,030, edging up by less than 1 pt. Major techs traded mixed. TENCENT (00700.HK) hiked 0.33%; BABA-W (09988.HK) gained nearly 1%; MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) lost 0.21%; while XIAOMI-W (01810.HK), JD-SW (09618.HK) and NTES (09999.HK) faded more than 1%. Among blue chips, LENOVO GROUP (000992.HK) outshone the market, closing up 4.9% and becoming the best-performing blue chip in the half-day session. ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK) added 1.45% after being added by Goldman Sachs to its APAC's CL Buy. MTR CORPORATION (00066.HK) slid 2.02%, the worst-performing blue chip in the half-day session, after reaching a HKD2.25 billion settlement agreement with the government regarding the Hong Kong section of the high-speed rail and the Shatin to Central Link. International financials, which were sold off last Friday, continued to decline this morning. HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) sank 1.14% to HKD147.8; STANCHART (02888.HK) dropped 1.74%; and AIA (01299.HK) declined 1.01%. Goldman Sachs upgraded Z.AI (02513.HK) to Buy, with the stock closing up 4.95% at midday. MINIMAX-W (00100.HK) rose 0.74%; XUNCE (03317.HK) lifted 1.47%. Severe shortages of upstream raw materials triggered by booming demand for AI servers and high-speed networks drove the PCB industry into a new upcycle.
