2026-10-05 11:35:00 Box office during the first four days of the 2026 National Day holiday period was weaker than during the pandemic period, with total box office revenue at RMB685 million, down 38% YoY, on the back of ticket sales of 19 million, down 36% YoY, and an average ticket price of RMB36, down 4% YoY, Citi said in a report. The figures were also below the broker's previous expectation for flat daily box office revenue YoY. In the broker's view, the lack of blockbuster movies and substitution effects from travel were the key reasons for weak cinema attendance. Amid a sluggish market and uncertain audience response, low production costs are key for films to achieve positive returns.
