US non-farm payroll growth in September came in way below expectations, easing market expectations for an interest rate hike in October. This morning (5th), the HSI opened at 23,963, down 8 pts or 0.04%; the HSTECH opened at 4,138, down 19 pts or 0.47%; and the HSCEI opened at 8,021, down 9 pts or 0.12%. Major tech stocks were broadly under pressure. NTES (09999.HK), MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) and JD-SW (09618.HK) lost more than 1%; BABA-W (09988.HK) and TENCENT (00700.HK) each dipped about 0.29%. Among blue chips, BEONE MEDICINES (06160.HK) leaped 2.17%; LENOVO GROUP (00992.HK) added 1.4%; ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK) climbed 1.2%; BUD APAC (01876.HK) fell 0.44% after the company expected to record a non-underlying withholding tax expense of USD52 million related to internal restructuring in 3Q. Financials, which were sold off last Friday, showed mixed performance this morning. HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) inched up 0.33%; AIA (01299.HK) drifted lower by 0.36%; STANCHART (02888.HK) dropped 0.44%; BANK OF CHINA (03988.HK) edged down 0.17%; CHINA LIFE (02628.HK) faded 0.65%; CCB (00939.HK) hiked 0.37%.
