2026-10-02 16:45:26 The three major US stock indices rattled higher on Thursday (1st). Yields on 10-year and 30-year US Treasury bonds ebbed back after touching more than 24-year highs, while more Fed officials suggested patience before raising interest rates again. Hong Kong bourse was closed yesterday for the National Day holiday. In the absence of southbound funds, the HSI resumed trading this morning (2nd) with a gap-down opening of 513 pts, at one point falling as much as 747 pts to a nearly three-month trough of 23,865. The index ended at 23,972, down 640 pts or 2.6%, with full-day turnover at HKD145.804 billion; the HSTECH settled at 4,157, down 95 pts or 2.26%; and the HSCEI closed at 8,030, down 189 pts or 2.31%. Leading techs came under pressure. BABA-W (09988.HK), TENCENT (00700.HK) and MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) sagged more than 2%; XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) slumped nearly 4%; BIDU-W (09888.HK) dropped 3.03%; while JD-SW (09618.HK) declined 1.34%. Financials and insurers deteriorated. HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) dived 5.38% for the day to HKD149.5; AIA (01299.HK) crashed nearly 6%, making it the worst-performing blue chip of the day; HKEX (00388.HK) slid 3.09%; STANCHART (02888.HK) tumbled 5.97%; ICBC (01398.HK) plunged 3.31%; while BOC HONG KONG (02388.HK), BANK OF CHINA (03988.HK), CHINA LIFE (02628.HK) and CCB (00939.HK) each slipped more than 2%. Macau's Sep GGR sank 1.2% YoY to MOP18.063 billion. CLSA said the result missed expectations by 3% and forecast Oct GGR to remain flat YoY.
