Macau Mid-Autumn Holiday Mkt Booms; Tourism Industry Expects National Day Holiday Occupancy Rate to Cross 90%

Authorities have rolled out multiple measures to welcome visitors, aiming to achieve a target of 150,000 visitor arrivals per day. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said the market was vibrant during the Mid-Autumn holiday. Visitor arrivals numbered about 140,000 on the Mid-Autumn Festival day, while arrivals topped 170,000 on the following day. Favorable weather boosted tourists' willingness to travel. She hopes the popularity seen during Mid-Autumn Festival can continue into the National Day holiday. Cheung Kin Chung, President of Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association and Secretary General of Association of Macau Tourist Agents, said the Mainland China National Day holiday is right on the heels of the Mid-Autumn holiday, creating an extended vacation period. He expected average daily visitor arrivals during the National Day Golden Week to exceed last year's level of 143,000. Current hotel bookings in Macau are relatively ideal, while visitors generally book stays of two to three nights. H He added that room rates have increased during the peak season, but the magnitude remains reasonable. Booking figures were expected to continue rising, and overall occupancy rates may breach 90%.
