Xi-Trump Meeting Forges 8-Point Consensus Incl. USD30B Reciprocal Tariff Reduction Arrangement

The two heads of state exchanged in-depth views on building a constructive and strategically stable China-US relationship as well as major international and regional issues, reaching an eight-point consensus. First, both sides agreed to build a "constructive and strategically stable China-US relationship based on respect, fairness and reciprocity". Second, both sides agreed to support each other in hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) informal leaders' meeting and the Group of 20 (G20) leaders' summit, and the two heads of state intend to attend the meetings hosted by the other side. Third, the two heads of state agreed that Iran should fulfill its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, and that no country or institution should impose transit fees on international waterways. Fourth, the two heads of state recalled that China and the US were allies during World War II and fought side by side to achieve victory. Fifth, the two heads of state recognized the positive role of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism and the achievements of consultations between the economic and trade teams of both sides, including establishing and advancing mechanisms such as a trade council, reaching a "USD30 billion" reciprocal tariff reduction arrangement, and extending the outcomes of the Kuala Lumpur economic and trade consultations, while instructing relevant parties to implement them. Sixth, cooperation between China and US anti-drug law enforcement authorities has achieved visible results. Recently, both sides worked closely together and jointly solved multiple cases involving new psychoactive substances and precursor chemicals, arresting dozens of related criminal suspects in both countries. Seventh, both sides agreed to establish a China-US artificial intelligence dialogue to exchange views on risks and benefits related to artificial intelligence. The next dialogue will be held in Nov this year. Both sides also agreed to establish communication channels for artificial intelligence incidents. Eighth, the US side welcomed the arrival in the US of a pair of giant pandas loaned by China to Zoo Atlanta.
