HSI Ends Down 251 pts on Slim Turnover Amid Mid-Autumn Festival Absence of Southbound Funds; NTES Dives 3%; LENOVO Soars 3%+ Against Mkt
2026-09-25 16:39:55
The three major US stock indices were in a mixed bag overnight (24th). Uncertainty surrounding the Middle East situation shored up oil prices, while expectations for a Fed rate hike in October intensified, sending the 30-year US Treasury yield to its highest level since 2004. The Xi-Trump meeting failed to bolster Hong Kong stocks.

Today (25th), the HSI opened down 237 pts and once slid more than 480 pts before narrowing losses gradually. The HSI closed the day at 24,510, down 251 pts or 1.01%. In the absence of southbound funds during the Mid-Autumn Festival, turnover shrank to HKD102.203 billion. The HSTECH closed at 4,311, down 49 pts or 1.13%, while the HSCEI closed at 8,165, down 100 pts or 1.21%.

Leading techs waned broadly. NTES (09999.HK) crashed 3.05%; BABA-W (09988.HK) dropped 1.45%; JD-SW (09618.HK) declined 1.8%; MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) sank 0.83%; TENCENT (00700.HK) edged down 0.41%; while XIAOMI-W (01810.HK), which recently held its autumn product launch event, slipped 2.56% for the day.

Financials broadly went south along with the market. CHINA LIFE (02628.HK) plunged nearly 3%; AIA (01299.HK) fell off 2.7%; ICBC (01398.HK), HKEX (00388.HK), CM BANK (03968.HK), CCB (00939.HK) and PING AN (02318.HK) all dipped more than 1%; while HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) added 0.45% against the market trend.

Among blue chips, WEICHAI POWER (02338.HK) was the worst performer, closing down 4.78% for the day. The best performer was LENOVO GROUP (00992.HK), which soared 3.16% against the market trend. WUXI BIO (02269.HK) and WUXI APPTEC (02359.HK) each leaped more than 2%, while LONGFOR GROUP (00960.HK) tumbled 2.29%.
