EU Urges UK to Raise Tariffs on CN Car Imports
2026-09-25 14:23:27 The EU warned UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham that if Britain wants to avoid its exports being hit by the EU's "Made in Europe" barriers, it needs to raise tariffs on Chinese vehicles and align more closely with EU trade policies, the Financial Times reported. When the EU imposed additional tariffs on imports of Chinese electric vehicles in 2024, the UK did not follow suit, resulting in Chinese EVs now accounting for 16% of the UK's new car market. The UK is pressing the EU to include automobiles, chemicals and energy supply chains in the bloc's "Made in Europe" policy.
