2026-09-25 12:53:54 Uncertainty in the Middle East situation shored up oil prices, while the latest US manufacturing PMI released earlier came in surprisingly strong, fueling expectations for a Fed rate hike in October. US Treasuries were sold off, with the yield on the 30-year Treasury rising to the highest level since 2004. The three major US stock indices moved mixed overnight (24th). Mainland China's stock market was closed today (25th) for the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. With no positive developments emerging from the Xi-Trump meeting to boost Hong Kong equities, the HSI deepened losses from the previous two sessions. After opening down 237 points this morning, losses widened in early trading. The HSI closed the half-day at 24,343, a more than two-month low, down 417 points or 1.69%. Southbound trading was suspended until next Monday (28th), and half-day turnover sharply shrank to HKD59.147 billion. The HSCEI closed at 8,113, down 152 points or 1.84%. The HSTECH closed at 4,267, down 93 points or 2.14%. Leading techs broadly went south. XIAOMI-W (01810.HK), which recently held its autumn product launch event, slumped 3.54% by midday. TENCENT (00700.HK) faded 1.09%. BABA-W (09988.HK), MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), JD-SW (09618.HK) and BIDU-W (09888.HK) dropped more than 2%, while KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) and NTES (09999.HK) declined more than 3%. The "three oils" ebbed back after the Iranian president said he hoped to negotiate with the US. CNOOC (00883.HK) and PETROCHINA (00857.HK) dived about 2%, while SINOPEC CORP (00386.HK) lost 1.34%. A nationwide interest subsidy policy may purportedly be introduced, with combined subsidies from the Ministry of Finance and local governments potentially reaching as high as 100 bps, pushing first-home mortgage rates down to around 2%. Besides, the total quota would reportedly be RMB100 billion with a 20 bps subsidy. Multiple property sector analysts at brokerages remained cautious about the rumors, believing the likelihood of a nationwide subsidy policy being implemented was low. Major Chinese property developers came under pressure. LONGFOR GROUP (00960.HK) plunged 4.86% to HKD5.19, a record listing low. CHINA VANKE (02202.HK) nosedived 5.7%, while CHINA JINMAO (00817.HK), GREENTOWN CHINA (03900.HK), SEAZEN (01030.HK), C&D INTL GROUP (01908.HK), YUEXIU PROPERTY (00123.HK), CHINA RES LAND (01109.HK) and CHINA OVERSEAS (00688.HK) declined 2.3-3.7%.
