2026-09-21 16:36:12 The HSI opened down 2 pts this morning (21st) before uptick. Chinese President Xi Jinping confirmed a state visit to the US from Wednesday (23rd) to Friday (25th). Market upswing broadened in the afternoon session, with the index breaking above the 25,000 mark. The HSI closed at 25,042, up 291 pts or 1.18%, with market turnover at HKD202.731 billion. The HSCEI closed at 8,339, up 114 pts or 1.39%, while the HSTECH closed at 4,423, up 17 pts or 0.40%. Major techs led the pack. XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) had a good run, closing at HKD27.58, up 4.47%, as the company will launch the "Xiaomi 18 Pro Series" at 7pm on Wednesday. CLSA said China's Agentic AI is rising and named TENCENT (00700.HK) and BABA-W (09988.HK) as its top picks. The two stocks closed up 2.63% and 3.02%, respectively. BIDU-W (09888.HK) closed up 2.06%. Innovative drug makers outshone amid China's policy support and market speculation that the US may ease investment restrictions on pharmaceutical companies in China. SBP GROUP (01177.HK), whose TP was raised by BofA Securities, leaped 8.23%, making it the best-performing blue chip of the day. Citi named WUXI BIO (02269.HK) and CSPC PHARMA (01093.HK) as top picks, with the two stocks swelling 5.26% and 7.56%, respectively. AKESO (09926.HK) jumped up 9.72%, whereas GENSCRIPT BIO (01548.HK) soared 5.24%. WUXI APPTEC (02359.HK), INNOVENT BIO (01801.HK), BEONE MEDICINES (06160.HK), LEPU BIO (02157.HK), KEYMED BIO-B (02162.HK), JUNSHI BIO (01877.HK) and LUYE PHARMA (02186.HK) all closed up 2%+ to 12%+. US President Donald Trump threatened that the Iranian regime could be completely eliminated, while Iran warned of a strong retaliation if attacked again. Hong Kong-listed "three oils" advanced, with SINOPEC CORP (00386.HK) up 2.21%, PETROCHINA (00857.HK) up 0.21%, and CNOOC (00883.HK) up 1.44%. Shippers also thrived.
