President Lee Jae Myung Says S Korea Will Not Deploy Troops to Hormuz for War; US Investment Talks Still Needed
2026-09-18 15:47:34 South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said he has no intention of seeking another presidential term, and even if constitutional amendments are completed, he would still be unable to serve another term under the relevant provisions of the Constitution, Yonhap News Agency reported. Regarding troop deployment to the Strait of Hormuz, he stressed that South Korea would not deploy troops to participate in or intervene in war. However, like other countries, South Korea needs to carry out necessary activities to ensure the safety of South Korean merchant shipping, safeguard crude oil transportation routes, and protect the lives of its citizens. Regarding investment in the US, he revealed that relevant authorities had reported that both sides were close to reaching an agreement, but he noticed some parts of the relevant content that were difficult to accept. Therefore, the South Korean government is conducting further consultations with the US.
