2026-09-14 09:42:04 The three major US stock indices snapped a four-day losing streak last Friday (11th). Persistently elevated US CPI last month reinforced market expectations for further Fed rate hikes. This morning (14th), the HSI opened at 24,701, down 104 pts or 0.42%; the HSCEI opened at 8,213, down 33 pts or 0.4%; and the HSTECH opened at 4,290, down 29 pts or 0.69%. Major techs were broadly under pressure. BABA-W (09988.HK), MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) and TENCENT (00700.HK) each opened down more than 1%; KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) dipped 0.96%; XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) and JD-SW (09618.HK) edged up 0.23% and 0.66%, respectively. Japanese and South Korean stock markets shrank in early trading, while chip stocks were subdued after Anthropic called on the industry to slow the pace of AI development. SMIC (00981.HK) sank 1.9%; HUA HONG GRACE (01347.HK), MONTAGE TECH (06809.HK) and ILUVATAR COREX (09903.HK) each opened down more than 2%; XL2CSOPHYNIX (07709.HK) slumped 13.29%; XL2CSOPSMSN (07747.HK) tumbled 8.26%. Among AI concept stocks, Z.AI (02513.HK) sagged 5.67% after finalizing a share placement and issuance of convertible bonds, raising a total of RMB39.3 billion.
