KOPSPI Last Up 3%; G Sachs Keeps 12,000-Point Target
2026-09-07 09:29:32
Goldman Sachs Asia Pacific Chief Equity Strategist Timothy Moe maintained his 12,000-point target for South Korea's KOPSPI. South Korea's KOPSPI was last up 3% today (7th) at 6,890, implying more than 70% upside from the current level to the target.

Moe said investors are underestimating the duration of AI-driven benefits for South Korean chipmakers, and forecast the KOPSPI rally to be fueled by corporate earnings.

He added that spending by major US tech companies next year is expected to top USD1.2 trillion, markedly above the previous forecast of USD800 billion.

He estimated earnings growth for KOPSPI constituents to reach about 360% this year before slowing to around 35% next year, but the market has already fully priced in the eventual moderation in profit growth.

Moe also acknowledged risks facing South Korean chipmakers from Chinese competitors such as CXMT (688825.SH), as well as potential political resistance to US data center construction. However, overall fundamentals are expected to remain favorable for advanced chip manufacturers over the coming years.
