Trump Demands Sharp Fed Rate Cut or Halt Trade With Countries Running Surpluses Against US
2026-09-07 09:14:42 US President Donald Trump last Friday (4th) demanded that the Federal Reserve sharply cut interest rates, or the US would stop trading with countries running trade surpluses against the US. Trump posted on Truth Social in response to a much stronger-than-expected monthly employment report, urging the Fed and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh to "get smart" and lower interest rates. Trump said in the post that 162,000 jobs were added in August, way more than all forecasts.
