Joseph Tsai Continues to Add Stake in BABA-W Over Days; Total Investment HKD160M+
2026-08-25 17:32:50 BABA-W (09988.HK) Chairman Joseph Tsai again increased his holdings in the group through on-market purchases today (25th), involving 720,000 shares at an average price of approximately HKD113.4668 per share, with total consideration of over HKD81.696 million, as revealed by disclosures filed with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Together with the 720,000 shares purchased yesterday (24th), Tsai invested more than HKD162 million over the two days, raising his shareholding ratio to 1.44%. Group CEO Eddie Wu also purchased 350,000 shares on-market yesterday at an average price of HKD111.6359 per share, involving approximately HKD39.0726 million. Over the past two days, the two executives cumulatively increased holdings in group shares worth more than HKD200 million, highlighting their strong confidence in the AI strategy and long-term growth prospects. From FY2021 to 1QFY27, Alibaba cumulatively repurchased 508 million ADSs for USD46 billion, with an average price of USD91 per ADS, equivalent to HKD88.7 per ordinary share. Driven by the share repurchase program, Alibaba's share capital as of the end of June 2026 declined 11.5% compared with March 2021. In addition, since FY2023, Alibaba has distributed cumulative dividends totaling USD13.6 billion to shareholders.
