The index closed at 25,698, up 203 pts or 0.8%, with turnover at HKD269.119 billion. The HSCEI closed at 8,547, up 76 pts or 0.9%. The HSTECH closed at 4,700 pts, up 18 pts or 0.39%. Among major dotcoms, KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) slumped 11.01%, making it the worst-performing blue chip, after the company's 2Q adjusted profit slid 30.3% YoY and Daiwa downgraded the stock to Hold. TENCENT (00700.HK) rose nearly 1%; BABA-W (09988.HK) gained 1.61% ahead of results; BIDU-SW (09888.HK) rebounded 2.45%; JD-SW (09618.HK) mounted 1.69%. For pharmaceuticals, SBP GROUP (01177.HK) swelled 12.53%, becoming the best-performing blue chip of the day, after its interim profit added 1.4% and far exceeded expectations, prompting bullish comments from multiple brokers. WUXI BIO (02269.HK), INNOVENT BIO (01801.HK), WUXI APPTEC (02359.HK), HANSOH PHARMA (03692.HK) and BEONE MEDICINES (06160.HK) hiked more than 1-3%. HENGRUI PHARMA (01276.HK) bucked the market and dived 9.63% after brokers said its quarterly results missed. Moderna, Inc. (MRNA.US) leapfrogged 176% overnight after its mRNA cancer vaccine achieved a major breakthrough in late-stage clinical trials. The news boosted innovative drug concept stocks. EVEREST MED (01952.HK) skyrocketed 41.43% to close at HKD33.66, with turnover surging to HKD4.269 billion.
