It closed at 25,786 at midday, up 291 pts or 1.14%, with half-day turnover at HKD144.106 billion. The HSCEI closed the half-day at 8,591, up 120 pts or 1.42%, while the HSTECH closed at 4,754, up 72 pts or 1.54%. Among major techs, KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) tumbled 9.74%, making it the worst-performing blue chip, after the company logged a 30.3% YoY drop in adjusted profit for 2Q26 and Daiwa downgraded the stock to Hold. TENCENT (00700.HK) rose 1.83%; BABA-W (09988.HK) gained 2.42% ahead of results; BIDU-SW (09888.HK) rebounded 3.34%; and JD-SW (09618.HK) jumped up 2.75%. For pharmaceuticals, SBP GROUP (01177.HK) leapfrogged 16.18%, becoming the best-performing blue chip at midday. The company posted a 1.4% hike in interim profit, far exceeding expectations, and received blessings from brokers. WUXI BIO (02269.HK), INNOVENT BIO (01801.HK), WUXI APPTEC (02359.HK), HANSOH PHARMA (03692.HK), and BEONE MEDICINES (06160.HK) spiked more than 3% to over 6%. HENGRUI PHARMA (01276.HK) bucked the market trend and fell off 4.9% after announcing a proposed share buyback of up to RMB2 billion for its A shares. JPMorgan said Hengrui's 2Q revenue and profit both missed its forecasts by nearly 10%, and expected the market to cut revenue and earnings forecasts. Nomura said Hengrui's 2Q sales and net profit were way worse than expectations. Moderna, Inc. (MRNA.US) skyrocketed 176% overnight after its mRNA cancer vaccine achieved a major breakthrough in late-stage clinical trials. The news boosted innovative drug concept stocks. EVEREST MED (01952.HK) mushroomed 68.07% to HKD40 at midday, with turnover of HKD2.672 billion.
