TENCENT (00700.HK) rose 1.66%; BABA-W (09988.HK) opened 1.93% higher ahead of results; MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) and JD-SW (09618.HK) gained over 2%; BIDU-SW (09888.HK) opened 0.78% higher; KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) opened 4.76% lower after its 2Q adjusted profit sagged 30.3% YoY. Moderna, Inc. (MRNA.US) spiked 176% overnight after its mRNA cancer vaccine achieved a major breakthrough in late-stage clinical trials. The news boosted Hong Kong pharmaceutical and biotech stocks. CSPC PHARMA (01093.HK) opened 9.38% higher; WUXI BIO (02269.HK) rallied 7.52%; INNOVENT BIO (01801.HK) soared 4.22%; WUXI APPTEC (02359.HK) and BEONE MEDICINES (06160.HK) leaped over 2%; SBP GROUP (01177.HK) surged 6.05% after reporting a 1.4% increase in interim profit and a higher dividend payout. Spot gold once busted above USD4,500 per ounce, lifting gold mining stocks.
