HSBC Private Banking Keeps Overweight on US Equities, Expects Strong Earnings Growth to Persist in 2H
2026-08-14 16:14:10
Patrick Ho, Chief Investment Officer, North Asia, HSBC Private Banking and Wealth Management, said the bank lately maintained an Overweight allocation to US equities, projecting the market to continue to be underpinned by resilient growth, strong earnings momentum, and the US' continued leadership in AI, semiconductors, cloud infrastructure and software.

The rally in US equities has broadened to a wider market so far this year. In July, there was notable rotation across sectors and within the technology sector, with system software rising 17.9%, semiconductors falling 8.5%, and semiconductor equipment declining 32.5%.

He estimated corporate earnings growth to remain strong in 2H26. FactSet forecast earnings growth for the S&P 500 at 27.4% and 25.2% in 3Q and 4Q respectively, while projections for 2026 and 2027 are 30% and 13.6%.
