HSI Turns North by 17 Pts at Half-day; TENCENT Tumbles ~4% After Results; Z.AI and MINIMAX-W Thrive

This morning (13th), the HSI opened down 152 points before stabilizing. At the half-day close, the index stood at 25,457, up 17 points or 0.07%. Half-day market turnover totaled HKD132.028 billion. The HSTECH closed at 4,790, up 14 points or 0.3%. The HSCEI ended at 8,443, down 3 points or 0.04%.

Among major techs, TENCENT (00700.HK) reported 2Q capex surge, with brokers concerned that AI investment could affect short-term profit. Its shares closed the half day at HKD444, down 3.81%. BIDU-SW (09888.HK) mounted 2.25%, while BABA-W (09988.HK), MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) and JD-SW (09618.HK) lifted less than 1%.

Among blue chips, TINGYI (00322.HK) continued to attract buying interest after its results announcement and was upgraded to Outperform by CLSA. The stock closed up 7.89%, making it the best-performing blue chip. CSPC PHARMA (01093.HK) leaped 5.76% after receiving a USD30 million upfront payment from AstraZeneca. CKI HOLDINGS (01038.HK) shot up 3.2% after logging a 389% spike in interim profit and receiving positive broker comments. LENOVO GROUP (00992.HK), which is set to announce quarterly results today, jumped up 3.37%. POP MART (09992.HK) advanced 3.05% after Duan Yongping further increased his stake. POWER ASSETS (00006.HK) jumped up 2.36% after UBS said its quarterly results were broadly in line.

Solar and resource stocks weakened, with XINYI SOLAR (00968.HK) and CHALCO (02600.HK) shedding more than 5%. CHINAHONGQIAO (01378.HK) tumbled 4.42%, while ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK) slid 2.39%.

Among the two major AI concept stocks, Z.AI (02513.HK), which was included in the MSCI China Index, escalated 4.88%, while MINIMAX-W (00100.HK) mushroomed 5.76%.
