HSI Opens Down 3 pts as AIA, HSBC HOLDINGS Remain Soft; WHARF REIC 2%+ Higher

US stocks descended overnight, with the three major indices finishing lower. The DJIA snapped its five-day winning streak, nosediving 464 points or 0.9%. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq sagged 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively. This morning (7th), the HSI opened at 25,526, down 3 points or 0.01%; the HSTECH opened at 4,833, up 12 points or 0.26%; and the HSCEI opened at 8,508, up 9 points or 0.11%.

Major techs were mixed. TENCENT (00700.HK) opened down 0.04%; NTES (09999.HK) hiked 1.18%; XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) fell 0.75%; while MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), BABA-W (09988.HK) and JD-SW (09618.HK) gained less than 1%.

AIA (01299.HK) remained pressured by market rumors that China may impose a 20% personal income tax on gains from offshore insurance policies, opening down 0.82%. HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK), which resumed share buybacks, also dipped 0.25%.

Among blue chips, WHARF REIC (01997.HK) opened up 2.33%, continuing to be supported by strong earnings results. CNOOC (00883.HK) mounted 1.06%, while SMIC (00981.HK) added 0.69%.
