HSBC HOLDINGS CEO Reiterates No Layoffs After Hang Seng Bank Privatization
2026-08-04 17:56:19
Following the privatization of Hang Seng Bank, HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) introduced measures to integrate resources between the two banks. HSBC HOLDINGS CEO Georges Elhedery said the arrangements are focused on improving back-office operational efficiency and will not involve integration of frontline staff.

He reiterated that there will be no layoffs at HSBC or Hang Seng Bank, although some job functions may disappear due to the privatization and integration process.

He said the group will formulate skills training programs for employees to help them transition to positions in which the group is investing heavily. Hang Seng Bank's new personal banking customer acquisitions reached 60,000 in 2Q26, doubling from 30,000 in 1Q26, reflecting the advantages of internal system integration.
