Citi: HSBC HOLDINGS 2Q Results Mixed; Buyback Size Below Expectations
2026-08-04 15:59:49
Citi released a report on HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK), of which 2Q results were mixed. Revenue slightly beat on wealth management, and guidance for NII was raised. However, the buyback size was below expectations and there were concerns over cost guidance. The broker maintained its Buy rating with a TP of HKD171.8.

Citi noted that HSBC HOLDINGS' adjusted profit before tax for 2Q, excluding notable items, was USD10.3 billion, 5% above market expectations. Revenue was 2% above expectations, mainly driven by non-net interest income, which rose 7% YoY at CER, including a 21% YoY rise in wealth management. NII reached USD11.6 billion, up 3% QoQ and broadly in line. The new round of share buyback amounted to only USD1 billion, way below market expectations of USD2.2 billion.
