CN Reportedly Resumes Issuance of Autonomous Driving Operation Permits; BIDU-SW Gains 2%+
2026-07-23 14:00:25
Following a large-scale malfunction involving BIDU-SW (09888.HK)'s autonomous taxi service Apollo Go in Wuhan that caused traffic disruption, the Chinese government announced in April a full suspension of new autonomous driving operation permits.

Chinese authorities have now resumed issuing such licenses, Bloomberg reported, citing sources. Spurred by the news, BIDU-SW's share price last leaped 2.59%, while PONY-W (02026.HK) rallied 3.25% and WERIDE-W (00800.HK) rose 0.26%.

After completing an industry-wide review at the end of June, some cities are reportedly gradually resuming operations, suggesting that BIDU-SW's operations in Wuhan may be recovering. However, BIDU-SW has not responded to the report.

WERIDE-W stated that it welcomes a clear, stable and predictable regulatory environment to support the responsible development of autonomous driving technology. The company added that it will continue to work closely with regulators and industry stakeholders to advance innovation responsibly.
