OpenAI President Says Moonshot AI's Kimi K3 Quite Impressive, Unsure Any Distillation
2026-07-23 09:57:12 OpenAI President Greg Brockman acknowledged that Moonshot AI's new-generation large language model (LLM) Kimi K3 is quite impressive, but said it remains unclear whether there has been any distillation of OpenAI models. He said it is still too early to determine whether Moonshot AI illegally appropriated OpenAI model achievements through distillation, adding that the company has been monitoring the situation continuously. Moonshot AI stated that, apart from Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 and OpenAI's GPT-5.6, the overall capabilities of the Kimi K3 model have surpassed all competitors.
