Intl Oil Prices Rebound as Iran Reportedly Asks Yemen's Houthis to Prepare for Red Sea Blockade
2026-07-17 08:54:43
Iran asked Yemen's Houthi forces to prepare to shut down Red Sea oil shipping routes if the US attacks Iran's power facilities, Reuters, citing sources, reported.

The Houthi forces reportedly deployed missiles and drones near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait linking the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and are awaiting orders to begin operations.

Since the collapse of the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran, tensions in the Middle East have continued to escalate.

A substantial volume of Gulf oil is currently transported to the Red Sea via pipelines in Saudi Arabia, while around 7% of global energy supplies are shipped through the Red Sea.

International oil prices rebounded this morning (17th). Brent oil futures and New York oil futures last went up around 0.6%, at USD84.71 and USD79.43 respectively.
