2026-07-16 10:30:11 US officials said US President Donald Trump, after receiving briefings from senior aides for several consecutive days, is leaning toward expanding military operations in Iran, the Wall Street Journal reported. The plans could include intensified air strikes, deploying ground troops to seize Iranian islands near the Strait of Hormuz, and bombing a site suspected of being used for covert nuclear activities. Expanding air strikes against additional targets in Iran, including energy facilities, is also reportedly under consideration. The US military launched two waves of air strikes against Iran on Wednesday (15th), while also driving away several vessels during blockade operations targeting Iranian ports. Trump has yet to make a final decision on the next step in the war, report said. He has consistently hoped to resolve disputes with Iran through diplomatic means, but the diplomatic deadlock has prompted him to ask aides to provide alternative options. US stock index futures edged down. DJIA futures fell 35 points, or less than 0.1%, while S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq futures dipped 0.02% and 0.19%, respectively. International oil prices rose for a fourth consecutive day. New York oil futures and Brent oil futures gained 0.64% and 0.36%, respectively, to USD80.11 and USD85.26 per barrel. ~ AASTOCKS Financial News Website: www.aastocks.com | |
