2026-07-16 09:40:28 US PPI growth for last month slowed YoY, prompting the market to lower expectations for further Fed rate hikes. The three major US stock indices closed up 0.3-0.6%. Large-cap tech stocks fared well, although most chip stocks declined. The HSI opened at 24,825, up 143 pts or 0.58%; the HSTECH opened at 4,747, up 7 pts or 0.15%; and the HSCEI opened at 8,234, up 50 pts or 0.61%. Among major techs, BABA-W (09988.HK) extended the strength of Alibaba Group Holding Limited (BABA.US) overnight in the US market, opening 2.47% higher after reports that Alibaba's Qwen AI will be integrated into Apple Intelligence. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), XIAOMI-W (01810.HK), BIDU-SW (09888.HK) and KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) rose more than 1%, while NTES (09999.HK) and TENCENT (00700.HK) gained 0.8%. South Korea's KOSPI plunged nearly 8% this morning, while SK Hynix slumped more than 10%.
