2026-07-14 12:30:32 By midday, the HSI settled at 24,099, down 113 pts or 0.47%, with half-day turnover at HKD161.969 billion; the HSTECH closed at 4,609, down 66 pts or 1.42%; and the HSCEI concluded at 8,031, down 34 pts or 0.43%. Major techs broadly ebbed back. BIDU-SW (09888.HK) was the worst-performing blue chip at midday, plunging 8.84%; BABA-W (09988.HK) and TENCENT (00700.HK) dipped more than 1%. JD-SW (09618.HK) and XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) dropped less than 1%. The US has once again gone to war with Iran, while also set to resume its maritime blockade against Iran and impose a 20% charge on all cargo transported through the Strait of Hormuz. Oil service stocks were sought after, with SHANDONG MOLONG (00568.HK) surging 14.63% by midday and PETRO-KING (02178.HK) soaring 8.08%. The "Two Oils" also shot up, with CNOOC (00883.HK) up 2.34% and PETROCHINA (00857.HK) up 3.35%. Following SK Hynix ADR's overnight slide of more than 9%, SK Hynix shares in South Korea extended losses by more than 6% this morning. XL2CSOPHYNIX (07709.HK) slid 9.02%, while XL2CSOPSMSN (07747.HK) rose 0.76%.
