HSI Ticks Up 354 pts to Reclaim 23,000; NTES-S, SMIC Jump 6%; LENOVO GROUP Slumps 9%

Hong Kong stock market settled on index futures settlement day (29th). The HSI closed at 23,026, up 354 pts or 1.57%. Total turnover for the day amounted to HKD315.379 billion. The HSTECH closed at 4,393, up 137 pts or 3.23%, while the HSCEI closed at 7,605, up 144 pts or 1.93%.

Major tech heavyweights advanced, providing key support for the market uptick. BIDU-SW (09888.HK) thrived, ending at HKD104.3, up 5.62%, amid reports that its Kunlunxin unit plans a Hong Kong listing at a valuation of USD50 billion. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) spiked 5.29%; BABA-W (09988.HK) gained 3.91%; TENCENT (00700.HK) and XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) climbed more than 2%. NTES-S (09999.HK) jumped up 6.35%.

Among blue chips, TRIP.COM-S (09961.HK) elevated nearly 6%. JPMorgan noted that the long-term competitive landscape remains intact and recommended investors buy the stock on dips. LENOVO GROUP (00992.HK) bucked the trend, plunging 9.22% to become the worst performer of the day, while SUNNY OPTICAL (02382.HK) slid 2.46%.

Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) reportedly plans to procure chips from CXMT. Citi expressed optimism on ASMPT (00522.HK), which rallied 11.23%. SMIC (00981.HK) soared 6%; HUA HONG GRACE (01347.HK) rallied 7.76%; GIGADEVICE (03986.HK) leaped 14.59%; MONTAGE TECH (06809.HK) added 6.6%. Samsung and SK Hynix plan to invest nearly USD520 billion to build four chip plants in South Korea, weighing on their share prices. In Hong Kong, XL2CSOPHYNIX (07709.HK) dived 6.5%, while XL2CSOPSMSN (07747.HK) sagged 10.41%.
