2026-06-29 11:48:52 As China’s domestic natural gas production declines and summer cooling demand reaches its peak, the country has stepped up purchases, ship-tracking data compiled by Kpler revealed. China’s LNG imports in June were expected to be flat YoY. Kpler estimated that China purchased about 5.29 million tonnes of super-chilled fuel in June, broadly in line with the officially reported import volume for the same period last year. This suggested that, after a contraction in imports earlier this year, China - the world’s largest LNG importer - is gradually picking up its procurement. Kpler expected China’s natural gas demand to remain elevated throughout August. However, demand should moderate in 4Q26 as domestic production recovers and gas consumption from the petrochemical sector fades.
