Cargo Vessel Attacked in Hormuz; US Official Says Iran Behind Attack
2026-06-26 09:35:22
A cargo vessel was hit by an unidentified missile in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting two supertankers to turn back while attempting to exit the strait from the Oman side.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said the vessel was attacked on its side while sailing off the coast of Oman, damaging the bridge but causing no casualties. It advised all ships to navigate with caution. The cargo vessel is reported to be flying the Singapore flag.

A US official told MS NOW that the vessel was attacked by Iran. The White House has yet to respond on whether the incident violates the memorandum of understanding signed between the US and Iran, which pauses local hostilities for 60 days to allow time for peace negotiations aimed at permanently ending the war.

Following news of the attack, oil prices rebounded overnight (25th). London Brent oil futures for August delivery closed at USD75.26 per barrel, up USD1.52 or 2.1%. New York oil futures for August delivery closed at USD71.92 per barrel, up USD1.58 or 2.3%. During the Asian session this morning (26th), international oil prices eased by about 0.5%.
