The HSTECH closed at 4,655, down 69 points or 1.46%, while the HSCEI closed at 8,217, down 101 points or 1.22%. Local financials rebounded after JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs said the impact of new mainland cross-border investment rules would be limited. HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) and STANCHART (02888.HK) leaped over 2%. AIA (01299.HK) soared nearly 5%, making it the best-performing blue chip of the day. Taobao & Tmall and JD were summoned by the Beijing market regulator, suppressing techs. BABA-W (09988.HK) plunged 5.37%, the worst-performing blue chip; BIDU-SW (09888.HK) tumbled 3.08%; JD-SW (09618.HK) slid 2.94%; TENCENT (00700.HK) and MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) dropped over 1%; NTES-S (09999.HK) bucked the trend, rising 1.75%. Chip stocks had a good run.
