HSI Opens Down 111 pts; CATL Slips 6%+; WUXI APPTEC Rallies 8%

The HSI opened down 111 points or 0.4% at 25,814. The HSCEI dropped 44 points or 0.5% to 8,711. The HSTECH slipped 16 points or 0.3% to 4,923.

CATL (03750.HK) opened 6.7% lower at HKD630. It announced a 7% discounted share placement to net over HKD39.1 billion. CHINAHONGQIAO (01378.HK) slid 3.7% to HKD33.76. It also announced a convertible bond issuance at a 25.3% premium to raise USD1.47 billion. HAIER SMARTHOME (06690.HK) shed 1.5% after reporting a 15% decline in 1Q26 net profit.

WUXI APPTEC (02359.HK) soared 8% to HKD136.1 at open. Its 1Q26 adjusted non-IFRS net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent surged 72% YoY to RMB4.598 billion. WUXI BIO (02269.HK) also hiked 2.2%.

Regarding major stocks, BABA-W (09988.HK) opened declining 1.1% to HKD128.8, despite approval from the Hong Kong Stock Exchange for the spin-off of Jiaxing park for listing on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. TENCENT (00700.HK) and MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) dipped 0.5% and 1.2%. AIA (01299.HK) inched up 0.7%. HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) and HKEX (00388.HK) lost 0.4% and 0.6%. BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) remained flat at HKD106. Its quarterly results will be released later today.

Among other blue-chip stocks, NTES-S (09999.HK) opened up 2.3%. SMIC (00981.HK) added 0.7%. HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK) faded 0.9%. XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) stayed intact at HKD31.1. CMOC (03993.HK) fell 3.3%. HENGAN INT'L (01044.HK) and HAIDILAO (06862.HK) eroded more than 2%.
