MTR Freezes Fares for 2nd Yr; 2027 Deferred Increase Totals 3.39%
2026-04-21 18:09:18 A document submitted by MTR CORPORATION (00066.HK) to the Legislative Council shows that the overall fare adjustment rate derived for this year is 2.85% under the MTR fare adjustment mechanism. However, under the "Affordability Cap" arrangement of the mechanism, as the median monthly household income in the corresponding period's fourth quarter recorded no change (i.e. 0), MTR fares will not be adjusted this year, marking the second consecutive year of fare freeze. The unimplemented fare adjustment rate of 2.85% for this year will be deferred to the following two years, with increases of 1.43% in 2027 and 1.42% in 2028. In addition, the previously deferred cumulative adjustment of 1.96%, which was originally scheduled to be implemented in 2026, will also be postponed to 2027. This implies a cumulative increase of 3.39% in 2027.
