US FCC Tables New Round of Restrictions on CN Telecoms
2026-04-10 09:46:28
The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) stated that, citing national security concerns, it is considering banning three major Chinese telecom companies - CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK), CHINA TELECOM (00728.HK) and CHINA UNICOM (00762.HK) - from operating data centers in the US.

It would also prohibit other telecom operators operating in the US from interconnecting with these Chinese telecom carriers. The FCC plans to hold a preliminary vote on the proposal at its April 30 meeting.

The FCC said it is also contemplating expanding the scope of the ban on providing US telecom services to cover certain subsidiaries of companies included on the national security list. It would further prohibit telecom operators from interconnecting with enterprises that have installed equipment from listed companies such as Huawei and ZTE.

The Chinese Embassy in Washington stated that China has consistently opposed the overextension of the concept of national security and the abuse of state power to suppress Chinese enterprises.
