Several CN Banks Claw Back Bonuses from Staff; BOC Recovers ~RMB47M in 2025

Amid a fatigued economic recovery and Beijing's continued tightening of scrutiny over the financial sector, several major mainland Chinese banks have clawed back bonuses from employees and even implemented pay cuts, the South China Morning Post reported.

These banks disclosed in their annual reports the total amount of performance-based compensation reclaimed from staff last year. Among them, BANK OF CHINA (03988.HK) clawed back a total of RMB47.18 million from 4,630 employees in 2025. In comparison, the bank recovered RMB32.5 million from about 2,500 employees in 2024.

In addition, China Bohai Bank recovered RMB19.58 million in bonuses from 816 employees in 2025. Several other banks, including CCB (00939.HK) and HUAXIA BANK (600015.SH), also made similar disclosures.
