Nikkei Mushrooms 2,064 Pts or 4% Midday on Semis/ Optical Fiber Stocks

Japanese bourse skyrocketed since the market anticipated an easing of Middle East tensions, offsetting concerns about institutional investors selling at the start of the new fiscal year.

The Nikkei opened 895 points higher; with amplified gains, the index mushroomed 2,209 points to peak at 53,273. It finished the half-day up 2,064 points or 4% at 53,128.

In the AI and semiconductor sector, Advantest (6857.JP) and Kioxia (285A.JP) jumped up 9.3% and 9.9%, respectively, while SoftBank (9984.JP), Lasertec (6920.JP), and Tokyo Electron (8035.JP) rallied 4.4-4.7%. Disco (6146.JP) rose 1.2%.

In the optical fiber sector, Furukawa Electric (5801.JP) and Fujikura (5803.JP) spiked 8%, and Sumitomo Electric (5802.JP) soared 6.9%.
