Moody's Upgrades BANK OF E ASIA Outlook to Stable as Commercial Real Estate Risk Exposure Greatly Reduced
2026-03-06 17:16:08
Moody's has upgraded the outlook for BANK OF E ASIA (00023.HK) from "Negative" to "Stable", reflecting the bank's achievement of significantly reducing its exposure to stressed commercial real estate in mainland China and Hong Kong over the past four years. Combined with the bank's strong capital levels, this has alleviated the downside pressure on its credit profile.

According to Moody's, BANK OF E ASIA's Hong Kong commercial real estate risk decreased from 14.5% of total loans at the end of 2022 to 9.9% by the end of 2025, with 79% of these loans being secured and having a low loan-to-value ratio. The bank's exposure to mainland China's real estate also dropped to 2.7% of total loans and debt investments.
