Jimmy Lai Sentenced to 20 Yrs for Conspiracy to Collude with Foreign Forces

Jimmy Lai, founder of Next Digital, and three companies of Apple Daily were previously convicted of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces and conspiracy to publish seditious publications.

This morning (9th), Lai, along with eight defendants, including Cheung Kim-hung, Chan Pui-man, Ryan Law, Lam Man-chung, Fung Wai-kong, Yeung Ching-kee, Chan Tsz-wah, and Andy Li, who pleaded guilty, were sentenced at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts.

Lai was found guilty of three charges of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces, resulting in a total sentence of 20 years. Last December, Lai had been convicted of two counts of "conspiracy to collude with foreign or external forces" and one count of "conspiracy to publish seditious publications". The court found Lai guilty on all charges.

Six former Apple Daily executives were convicted of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces. They were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 6 years and 9 months to 10 years.
