Kaiyuan Securities Foresees Demand/ Prices for Optical Fiber/ Cable to Rise Steadily on AI Data Center Build-out
2025-12-24 10:51:07
YOFC (06869.HK)’s share price rebounded this morning (24th) after a 5.1% pullback yesterday, opening 2.1% higher. The stock peaked at HK$57 during the session, swelling as much as 4.4%. It last printed at HK$56.05, up 2.7%, with a turnover of HK$786 million. YOFC has grossed upsurges of over 73% in the past month and nearly 3.59 times year-to-date.

In its report, Kaiyuan Securities said that the continuously increasing demand for optical fiber and cable is placing higher demands on manufacturers' production capacity, which may drive global optical fiber and cable manufacturers to a higher utilization rate in the short term. However, the industry supply may be relatively tight in the short term, due to the long expansion cycle of optical fiber preforms and the fact that new products occupy some capacity.

According to forecasts from the Asia-Pacific Optical Fiber and Cable Industry Association (APC), global demand for optical fiber and cable is expected to reach hundreds of millions of core kilometers by 2025 and maintain a growth trend, with prices having picked up sharply since May. Kaiyuan Securities gauged that the construction of AI data centers will continue to drive a steady increase in demand and prices for optical fiber and cable.

The broker pointed out that short-term supply may fall short of demand, highlighting investment opportunities in optical fiber and cable. With the booming development of AI globally, demand for optical fiber and cable for data center internals and DCI interconnects is likely to continue to grow. In the short term, global manufacturers have limited capacity to expand production, potentially leading to a supply crunch. Kaiyuan Securities expected that demand and prices for optical fiber and cable will maintain a steady uptrend. Its recommended stocks were HENGTONG OPTIC-ELECTRIC (600487.SH) and ZHONGTIAN TECH (600522.SH); beneficiaries were YANGTZE OPTICAL FIBRE (601869.SH), ETERN (600105.SH), FIBERHOME TELCOM (600498.SH), and SDG INFORMATION (000070.SZ).
