HSI Closes Down 400 Pts w/ Turnover Logging High in 6+ Mths; Chips/ Gold Miners Gain

The HSI closed down 400 points or 1.5% at 25,889. The HSCEI shed 135 points or 1.5% to close at 9,222. The HSTECH faded 114 points or 1.8% to close at 6,145. Total market turnover for the day amounted to $490.366 billion, the highest since 7 April.

For techs, TENCENT (00700.HK), MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), BABA-W (09988.HK) and BIDU-SW (09888.HK) slipped 1.7-2.1%, while JD-SW (09618.HK) and KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) cascaded 3.6% and 4.1%. BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) eroded 5.4%, while NEW ORIENTAL-S (09901.HK) and GDS-SW (09698.HK) waned 3.6% and 4.7%. SENSETIME-W (00020.HK) stumbled 3%.

The domestic substitution concept supported chip stocks, with SMIC (00981.HK) and HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK) elevating 3.4% and 8%. Chip equipment stock ASMPT (00522.HK) shrank 3.2%. China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC)'s announcement attachment adopted the wps format, with KINGSOFT (03888.HK) spiking 13.8% against the market. CHINASOFT INT'L (00354.HK) also mounted 3.4%.

Gold prices ascended, with SD GOLD (01787.HK) and LINGBAO GOLD (03330.HK) escalating 7.1% and 6.1%. ZHAOJIN MINING (01818.HK) and CHINAGOLDINTL (02099.HK) leaped 3.5% and 2.8%, while ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK) climbed 1.7%.

For financials, HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) slid 0.9%, while HKEX (00388.HK) and AIA (01299.HK) lost 2.7% and 2.9%. Chinese insurers PICC P&C (02328.HK), PING AN (02318.HK) and CHINA LIFE (02628.HK) slumped 2.2-2.7%. Chinese developers CHINA VANKE (02202.HK) and GREENTOWN CHINA (03900.HK) descended 3.3%, while SINO-OCEAN GP (03377.HK) sank 5.9%.
