HKO Issues Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 at 9:20 am

Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports. The Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 will remain in force for most of the time during the day today. Tropical Storm Mitag has intensified into a severe tropical storm. At 9 am, Mitag was estimated to be about 160 kilometers east of Hong Kong (near 22.2 degrees north 115.7 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest at about 15 kilometers per hour towards the coast of eastern Guangdong. In the past few hours, Mitag continued to move steadily across the northern part of the South China Sea, edging close to the coast of eastern Guangdong, the HKO added.
