HSI Closes Down 363 Pts as BABA-W/ TENCENT Slip; Chip Stocks Gain

The HSI lost 363 points or 1.4% to close at 26,544. The HSCEI waned 140 points or 1.5% to close at 9,456. The HSTECH faded 63 points or 1% to end at 6,271. Total market turnover for the day amounted to $413.314 billion.

Huawei's self-developed Ascend 950PR chip, featuring proprietary HBM memory, is scheduled to be launched in 1Q26. Chip stocks continued their uptrend, with SMIC (00981.HK) and HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK) jumping up 2.7% and 8.6%. Chip equipment stock ASMPT (00522.HK) also swelled 7.3%. BIDU-SW (09888.HK), which develops AI chips, lifted 1.4% to $132.8, while BABA-W (09988.HK) sagged 2% to $158.4.

For other techs, MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) rebounded 0.3% to $105.5, while JD-SW (09618.HK) and XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) stumbled 1.8% and 1.7%. TENCENT (00700.HK), KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK), NTES-S (09999.HK) and BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) cascaded 2.4- 3%, while EAST BUY (01797.HK) soared 16.3% to close at $26.92.

Q TECH (01478.HK) sold a 51.08% stake in Q Tech India, and expected to record a gain of over RMB833 million, boosting its share price by 2.7%. WEIMOB INC (02013.HK) leaped 4.8% as it placed shares to Infini Capital at a 8.9% discount, raising a net proceed of over $1.5 billion.
